WhatsApp Green Tick | How to Apply For And Complete WhatsApp Business Verification

I’ve helped multiple businesses apply for and complete their WhatsApp green tick verification in the past month.

Here’s the kicker.

Meta typically reviews and approves applications in 48 hours. However, three of my applications took only 45 minutes to be approved.

TelebuSocial makes it easy to schedule messages on WhatsApp with a few clicks, whether you want to message 10 or 10,000 contacts. Get started or schedule a demo.

Here are some of them.

PECTIV gets their WhatsApp verification and blue tick (formerly green tick)

Today, I’ll show you how to apply for your WhatsApp green tick step-by-step and share my secret to getting it in 1/100th of the time.

Let’s go.

Note: The name has been changed from green tick to blue tick. But I’ll be using both names in this guide. Whichever I use, they mean the same thing. Also, when I say “apply for WhatsApp verification” I mean getting your blue/green tick.

What is a verified WhatsApp account?

A verified WhatsApp account is an account that belongs to an official business, and it makes your business stand out.

This distinction is crucial today because consumers are often bombarded by numerous businesses that could be from untrusted sources. So they’re increasingly cautious about who they engage with.

A verified account enhances your brand’s visibility and serves as a badge of legitimacy. This reassures potential customers that they are interacting with a recognised and trustworthy business.

What is WhatsApp Blue Tick (formerly called Green Tick)?

Telebu Communications WhatsApp blue tick and WhatsApp verification

WhatsApp Blue Tick is a classic WhatsApp badge or checkmark that shows that a business is verified and trustworthy.

It indicates that WhatsApp guarantees that the phone number of this account matches that of your business. This way, customers know that they are communicating with a legitimate business. Not an imposter or a fraudulent entity trying to take advantage of them.

This WhatsApp verification indicates that WhatsApp officially recognises a business.

What are the differences between verified and non-verified accounts?

Verified accounts have a verified badge, while non-verified accounts don’t. A verified badge is the tick that we get from Meta or WhatsApp. If you click on the account, you will see that it has a tick. That’s the first difference.

Secondly, whenever someone clicks on the business’ name, meta sends a pop up. It will automatically show that the account is verified.

So this shows anyone that clicks on it that WhatsApp’s parent company, Meta, has verified this account based on the activity, information or documents they have provided.

On the other hand, let’s look at accounts that are not verified.

First, there’s no verified badge. And when you click on their logo, nothing will pop up from Meta.

So, this is the first difference between a verified and a non-verified WhatsApp account.

Secondly, what do forwarding messages look like to the receiver?

Unverified accounts won’t have a badge when you forward a WhatsApp message from an unverified WhatsApp account. But when you forward a message from a verified account, the receiver sees a blue tick.

Thirdly, verified accounts rank higher in WhatsApp search results.

Due to Meta’s backend structure, the verified account appears at the top whenever someone searches for that business.

Now you know the difference between a verified and an unverified account. Let’s talk about the benefits of having a blue tick.

What are the benefits of Having a WhatsApp Blue Tick for my business?

The first benefit is enhancing credibility. Customers trust that they are interacting with the official brand.

Secondly, better visibility.

Interacting with a verified account creates a sense of trust. It subconsciously assures customers that they’re engaging with a genuine business.

The business name appears in the contact list even if the customer or audience has not saved the number.

For example, let’s say Telebu is doing a marketing campaign and the Telebu number is not saved on the customer’s list.

Once the customer receives the message, it will automatically come by the business name (Telebu), with the green tick. It will not appear with the WhatsApp number.

This also applies when you forward a message as a verified business.

If you forward a message to an unknown person using the normal WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business, the person will see an unsaved number.

Just like in this screenshot:

The difference between verified and non-verified accounts

This can increase their fear of being scammed. They can report your business to Meta. However, when it comes to verified accounts, your business appears as a name, even if it is not saved.

So, generally, verified accounts receive better customer interaction, leading to higher sales. This is one of the benefits of having a verified account.

Now you are clear about what a WhatsApp verified account is. Let’s discuss how to apply for verification.

What do you need to apply for WhatsApp verification?

Here are five things you need to apply for WhatsApp verification:

  • A Facebook account
  • A Facebook Business manager account
  • Compliance with WhatsApp’s policies
  • A strong online presence
  • Connected WA and FB Business Manager
  • PR and media coverage

Let me explain each of them.

1. A Facebook account

This will be the base for connecting your Business Manager and WhatsApp accounts.

2. A Facebook Business Manager account (facebook.business.com).

Within the Business Manager, you’ll need a verified business portfolio. If you haven’t done this yet, check out this helpful video that guides you through verifying your WhatsApp account.

3. Comply with WhatsApp’s commerce policy requirements

Compliance with the WhatsApp commerce policy is essential for account approval. Go through their policy to ensure your business aligns with them.

4. A strong online presence

A solid online presence will boost your chances.

Ensure you have an active website, and social media profiles. Especially a  Facebook page with a good number of followers.

5. Connected WA and FB Business Manager

To apply for a verified account, you need to connect your WhatsApp account with your Meta Facebook Business Manager.

There are two ways to do this:

  • Via any service provider, like TelebuSocial, which provides WhatsApp API services. This way, the number is automatically connected to your Facebook manager. Service providers, like TelebuSocial, make the process faster.
  • If you don’t want to buy an API service, you can connect your WhatsApp business account to your Facebook Business Manager.

6. PR and media coverage

You need at least five PR or news articles that mention your business. This helps add credibility to your application.

These are articles that show that your business is renowned.

They act as third-party endorsements, showcasing your brand’s legitimacy and current market presence. No news pieces on your website.

For example, here are some articles that define what our company Telebu does.

And this.

Both are from renowned newspapers.

So, PR articles can be online articles, magazine articles, or news articles.

Whatever you choose, it’ll be more beneficial if it’s recent—ideally, within the last two years.

Get the links to five PR articles. You’ll add them at a specific step in the registration process like this.

Mind you, your website, Facebook, Instagram page, or any self-published, paid or promotional content will NOT be accepted.

All your PR articles should be from external sources like renowned newspapers or magazines.

Finalising your request (my secret weapon)

After you click Submit, you’ll be asked to add extra information to support your request. This is where my secret comes in. I use a number of tested and working messaging templates to get my application approved in minutes.

Here’s a go-to template I made that you can use to add the extra information and speed up the verification process:

“Dear Meta Verification Team,

I hope you’re doing well!

I’m reaching out to request verification of a WhatsApp account for Telebu (for example), a trusted name in professional communication services. Here’s the link to our official Facebook page: [Then you insert your business’ Facebook link].”

Now, it’s a good thing if your Facebook page has a strong engagement or a solid following, mention it. This can add credibility to your request, so please state it clearly there.

You can write something like, “Telebu has over 7,000 followers on Facebook.”

This detail strengthens your case because it shows your brand’s online presence.

Here are screenshots of how I did wrote this extra information for another client, NSHAMA.

For NSHAMA’s verification, I included extra details like their official website, LinkedIn, and Facebook pages, and a quick overview of their services and reasons for wanting WhatsApp verification.

And, to close, I gave the reason for the request for verification. I clearly emphasised how getting the green tick would benefit their customer interactions and overall operations.

Then, I submitted the application.

What happens next?

After submitting, your request will be marked “in review.”

Typically, Meta gives a decision within 1–2 business days. If approved, you’ll get that green tick, just like some of our other clients—like Pective, UI Systems, Shopify, DSC Greening Services, and Gino’s Delhi.
